10 Things You Need To Know About The Future Of DC Comics
8. A Classic Garth Ennis Creation Is Returning
Doomed is a pretty wacky, weird idea for DC to be following. It's encouraging, though, that going forward they might be trying some more unique ideas. Especially when that renewed creative bravery means they're inexplicably bringing back an old Garth Ennis joke superteam, last seen in his nineties series Hitman. Yes, Section 8 are part of the DCU again. Hitman followed the adventures of a superpowered contract killer through the DC Universe, in Ennis's usual foul-mouthed, depraved fashion. Which meant his Superman team-ups were few and far between. In the Justice League's stead, Ennis and artist John McCrea came up with their own superheroes to come clean up Hitman's mess. Both Ennis and McRea return for this new Section 8 series, which sees the triumphant return of Dog Welder (who welds dogs to villains with a blowtorch), recruited by a new team that includes Guts (A bunch of internal organs living outside a body), Powertool (he has a drill in his hat), and The Grapplah, who...grapples. This is a real thing that's happening.
