10 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About Spider-Man

7. Team Player

Spider-Man likes to play up the lone hero schtick pretty heavily - “Just one man against the world” - but the truth is that Pete has been doing team-ups from the beginning. In fact, Amazing Spider-Man #1 saw Peter attempting to get a job with the Fantastic Four because he thought that they were the answer to his almost ubiquitous money problems.

Parker finally joined a version of the Fantastic Four at the dying wish of Johnny Storm, the Human Torch in FF #1. The Torch was believed to have been killed in the Negative Zone, and Johnny thought his brilliant friend and verbal sparring partner would be a great fit in the Future Foundation, Reed Richard’s group of intellectually gifted children that he gathered to tackle the world’s problems.

The other group that has been a frequent player in Peter’s life, was The Avengers. Spider-Man helped the Avengers on several occasions, but becoming an actual member never seemed to work out. Either they refused him or his life intruded and he had to refuse them. When Electro staged a mass break out at the Raft, everyone who helped formed the newest Avengers team in the New Avengers title, which starts with the "Jailbreak!" story arc.

Unfortunately for Pete, Tony Stark had lost his fortune and the $1,000 weekly stipend that members used to receive was gone. Even after the "Civil War", Parker had a hard time getting paid because he refused to reveal his identity to the government in the early issues of the post-"Siege" run of the New Avengers.
