10 Thor Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die

8. Mangog

The Mighty Thor
Marvel Comics

The Mangog, the last remaining member of his race and imprisoned beneath Asgard, wreaked havoc when he was set free by the rock troll Ulik, hell-bent on drawing the Odinson from its scabbard, thereby destroying the universe.

Unlike many threats Thor has faced, Mangog was in fact defeated by Odin himself, who revealed that Mangog's race was inside him the entire time, and Mangog was in fact a living prison, which was quickly dismantled when Odin saw Thor was unable to outright defeat him. This action led him to seemingly disappear as his energy, but this notion quickly was dispelled when he returned with Loki four year later.

This trend of the Mangog seemingly being defeated and then returning became a cyclical cycle of sorts throughout Thor's comic history, but he's now considered as a staple in the God of Thunder's villain gallery. It makes this story a must-read for fans who want a complete understanding of Thor's history.
