10 Times Batman Went Too Far

9. Taking Steroids - Legends Of The Dark Knight #16

Batman may be a gruff loner, but when he fails to save someone, he always takes it the hardest of all. While this makes him a more sympathetic and likable hero, his guilt and tendency to over-correct for his mistakes causes him to make a lot of bad decisions. Case in point, when Batman can't lift a boulder that's trapped a girl in a flooded tunnel - causing the child to drown - Batman is determined to get stronger.

Being being a normal human means that there's only so far he can take his strength, so when training doesn't yield the results he was looking for, he turns to... other methods. Namely a LOT of steroids.

What's the problem here, besides the usual "drugs are bad" song and dance? Well unbeknownst to Bruce, the drugs he's taking turn out to be venom, the drug most famously used by Bane.

Unsurprisingly, it doesn't take long for Batman to become totally addicted, and under the thumb of the doctor supplying him with the steroids. While Batman of course snaps out of it and manages to lock up the doctor and detox, he pulls some major a-hole moves while under the influence before that happens.

A classic example of good intentions mixed with overwhelming guilt making a cocktail of misery.
