10 Times DC Comics Lost Their Damn Minds
2. Batman: Odyssey
Explaining the plot of Batman: Odyssey in the space of a single entry is going to be damn near impossible, but let's give it a shot.
Odyssey is framed as a story being told to an unknown party (who the reader takes the role of) by Batman himself. "Batman" in this case meaning a mostly naked Bruce Wayne and "story" being a long and rambling collection of mostly unconnected scenes.
We jump from Batman climbing up the side of a train like a bat while describing how he thought at the time he looked like a bat to Batman and Robin philosophising about guns while fighting Man-Bat. Then it turns out that Batman on the train is actually a flashback within a flashback that Batman had as he was lying injured from a gunshot.
And it just keeps going on and on like that. A series of bizarre and meandering events, buried underneath a mountain of exposition and full of dialogue that doesn't even sound like it should be spoken by a human being, much less the Dark Knight.
Somehow the whole thing goes from a gun-wielding Batman on a train, to him fighting dinosaurs underneath the Earth. Honestly, it's probably best not to think too hard about how the two connect.
Oh and the person Bruce is half-nakedly chatting to so intimately is actually Superman.
