10 Times Marvel Comics Lost Their Damn Minds

4. The Wasp Becomes... Something

Just like everyone else, the Avengers were hit hard by the 90's. In the infamous storyline The Crossing, Iron Man was revealed as a mole for Kang the Conqueror and got a bit murdery. During his rampage, Wasp was hit by an energy blast and left fighting for her life. It's a good thing her husband and super-scientist Hank Pym was on hand to save her.

Unfortunately though, for Giant-Man, science just isn't fun if the results aren't an affront to man and God so his solution was to alter Janet's genetic structure, turning her into a horrifying wasp monster. He also placed a tracking device in the base of her skull because Hank Pym is just the worst.

She now had bright yellow skin, antennae, wings and pink hair (just like all wasps). Her new powers allowed her to fly and fire energy blasts from her creepy elongated stick fingers, but prevented her from shrinking. Or at least she couldn't unless the writer or artist forgot and then she could. It was all rendered moot anyway though, when the Marvel Universe was rebooted after the Heroes Reborn event and Janet was back to normal.

Perhaps the weirdest part of the whole ordeal is how absolutely fine Janet was with the transformation. Then again, as we're going to see later, the Avengers have a habit of accepting things that they absolutely shouldn't be OK with.

I was just a mild-mannered NCTJ accredited journalist until one day I found out the truth... that I could share my nerdy ramblings with people on the internet! It's just like mumbling to myself on the train, but without all the strange looks.
