10 Times Marvel Comics Lost Their Damn Minds

2. Ms. Marvel Gives Birth To Her Own Boyfriend

This whole sordid affair started in Avengers #197 (1980) with the revelation that Ms. Marvel had somehow become pregnant overnight without a father. Despite this obviously being the beginning of a horror movie, the Avengers were pretty lighthearted about the whole thing and took Carol back to the mansion as her pregnancy rapidly advanced.

A little while later, in #200, she gave birth. Ms. Marvel spent most of the issue pretty shaken by what had just happened and refused to see her baby, but the rest of the team were eventually able to convince her to accept her motherhood (ironically, Wasp couldn't understand why someone might be upset that their body had undergone a drastic and unnatural change against their will).

However, when Carol went to meet her son, she came face to face with son of the time-traveller Immortus and world's No.1 creepy magician impersonator Marcus Kang. Kang was born in Limbo, outside of time, and so kidnapped Carol and impregnated her with himself as part of a plan to be born into the real world and then used his time powers to age to adulthood.

Then the Avengers beat up the creepy rapist right? Nope. Carol decided she was in love with the guy who sexually assaulted her (he even used Immortus' machines to make her fall in love with him) and they ran off together. The Avengers pretty much just shrugged it off and hoped she was happy.

Ms. Marvel would later reappear and, suffice to say, she was none too pleased with her teammates.

I was just a mild-mannered NCTJ accredited journalist until one day I found out the truth... that I could share my nerdy ramblings with people on the internet! It's just like mumbling to myself on the train, but without all the strange looks.
