10 Times Passing The Superhero Torch Was For The Better

7. The Flash (Barry Allen)

Out of all the entries on the list, Barry Allen is the most successful attempt at passing down the mantle because he wasn’t the original Flash. That honour goes to Jay Garrick, who sped his way into the comics 20 years before the thought of Barry Allen was even considered. Jay has appeared in many DC properties but barely comes close to the popularity that the second speedster boasts.

Barry Allen has been the main Flash in nearly every iteration of the character outside of the comic books, games and movies (animated and live-action). The CW show has also made Barry a household name; seeing a gripping story unfold week by week has done the character well through the years.

Barry is also a main player in the DC Universe, being the orchestrator of universe-altering points in DC history.

These include Crisis on Infinite Earths, where he sacrificed himself to save the Multiverse, and Flashpoint, where he altered history to stop his mom being murdered by the Reverse Flash. That last one gave way to the New 52, which changed the DC timeline forever.
