10 Times Spider-Man Was Forced To Kill

1. The Night Gwen Stacy Died (Was His Fault)

Not that anybody should be surprised at this point about the lethal potential behind those quips, wise cracks and penchant for pizza atop the Statue Of Liberty. Spider-Man is a stone cold killer, and nowhere is that more clear than in the classic The Night Gwen Stacy Died story, which has entered the annals of comic history as a groundbreaking piece of sequential art.

Why? Because it involves the shocking death of the hero's long-term love interest. And it was permanent, too. Imagine if they killed off Lois Lane! It would be outrageous! And yet that's basically what happened in this story, with Norman Osborn's OG Green Goblin behind the deed, having remembered Spidey's secret identity.

Except there remains some debate as to who exactly is responsible for Gwen Stacy's death. Sure, it was the Goblin who tossed her off a bridge, but in his haste to save her, it looks like Spider-Man snapped her neck by shooting a web line, grabbing her leg, and the sudden jerking motion being enough to finally do her in.

Man, and they call this hero the Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man? What do they call Wolverine?
