Ever since she was gunned down and confined to a wheelchair in the classic Killing Joke, Barbara Gordon was forced to abandon her career as Batgirl, instead devoting her time to acting as a Google for superheroes called Oracle. That was, until the New 52 reboot of DC Comics where she was suddenly cured and could walk again, meaning she could return to being Batgirl after year out of action. As you can imagine, she was a little rusty. And by a little rusty, read "she tried to intervene in a mugging but got scared and instead watched the victim get shot in the face without doing anything". Seriously, she just sat there and watched a dude get murdered. Something the wife wasn't particularly happy about, and neither was Barbara. Still, right in front of her! Throw a batarang or something! There was an issue of Birds of Prey where you took a guy down without the use of your legs, after all.
