The Crime Syndicate is an evil Justice League from another dimension. After their world was destroyed by the Anti-Monitor, they journeyed to the primary DC universe to conquer it.

Before the Justice League had a chance to stop them, the Crime Syndicate trapped the heroes inside the Firestorm Matrix. Save for Batman, there were no Leaguers to stop the Syndicate to toppling governments and taking over the world. The group's leader, a sinister version of Superman called Ultraman, deactivated all the world's super-prisons, allowing every supervillain under the Sun to wreak havoc upon society.

With the superheroes out of action, there was only one person who could save the day; Lex Luthor. Allying with the likes of Bizarro, Sinestro, Captain Cold, Black Adam, and Catwoman, Lex battled the Syndicate and singlehandedly defeated the team's most powerful member; Mazahs.

Immediately after the team was defeated, the Justice League were freed from the Firestorm Matrix. Much to Lex's satisfaction, he explained to Superman that he was forced to save the world in the League's absence. Despite being an evil bastard, Lex's victory against the Syndicate granted him membership to the Justice League.
