3. Magneto Attacks The Entire Planet - Ultimatum #1-5
In the Ultimate Marvel universe, Magneto snapped after he believed his children, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were murdered. (Quicksilver wasn't actually dead and the twins are actually Wolverine's kids but let's not get into that.)
Blinded by rage, Magneto shifted the magnetic poles of the Earth, triggering natural disasters worldwide. Volcanic eruptions destroyed the Amazon, earthquakes ravaged Wakanda, Eastern Europe was left frozen, and a tsunami swept through New York. As the X-Men left their base to save who they could, the Master of Magnesium strolled into their unguarded home to confront their mentor, Professor X. With no one to save him, Magneto effortlessly walked up to his former friend and snapped his neck.
The Avengers and the X-Men managed to track Magneto to his lair and kill him. It may have been the end of the maniacal mutant's tyranny but the damage couldn't be reversed. Because Mags' attack came with no warning, the heroes of Earth failed to save countless people across the world. Not only that, many heroes lost their lives in the conflict including Doctor Strange, Hank Pym, Nightcrawler, Angel, Cyclops, Daredevil, Wasp, and Wolverine.
There's no question that Ultimatum was the darkest moment in the Ultimate Marvel series.
