4. Mongul Obliterates Coast City - Reign Of Superman
During the 1990s, the alien warlord, Mongul, invaded Earth's atmosphere to launch an attack on Green Lantern's home, Coast City. When an extra-terrestrial usually threatens the world, Superman intervenes to beat the crap out of them and send them back to where they came from.
But during Mongul's invasion, Superman was dead, having recently been killed by Doomsday. Shortly after his demise, two superbeings called Cyborg Superman and the Eradicator appeared, claiming to be the Man of Steel.
Eradicator (who is actually a Kryptonian weapon given human form) happened to be in Coast City when Mongul prepped his attack. Realising that he needed back up, Lex Luthor ordered Cyborg Superman to help him. Little did anyone realise that the invasion was masterminded by Mongul's leader... Cyborg Superman!
When the robotic Supes arrived in Coast City, he vanquished Eradicator, leaving the city utterly undefended. With nothing to stop Mongul, he detonated 77,000 carnage globes on the city, turning it into a crater. Soon after, the real Superman appeared and teamed up with Green Lantern to stop Mongul and the rogue Superman from destroying the rest of the world. Although they succeeded, Green Lantern was utterly devastated that he lost his home, and went on to become the evil entity known as Parallax.
