5. Being A Deadbeat Dad

Superman Returns had a lot of problems, but by far the biggest was the fact that the movie transformed him into a jealous deadbeat dad who had walked out on his girlfriend and now wanted to steal her back from the man who treated her a million times better than he ever did. Sure, he didn't know she was pregnant when he left Earth, but the fact it didn't click upon his return doesn't say much about the size of Kryptonian brains.

After all, the boy with Kryptonian powers being the son of the movie's only Kryptonian wasn't exactly a surprise, and Clark not doing the math and realising that Lois must have had the baby roughly nine months after he left Earth points to him willingly neglecting the child upon his return. It's only when she explicitly tells him that he's his son that he gives the youngster a second glance (and likely starts worrying about child support).

Did Superman Returns end with the hero embracing his responsibilities as a parent? Nope. Instead, he just creepily hovered over the kid's bed and once again took off for outer space to enjoy being a bachelor.
