10 Times Supervillains Fought The WRONG Hero
3. Magneto Vs Defenders - Defenders #15-16
The Defenders are considered a C-list team since they were originally composed of "leftover" superheroes who battled generic foes like wizards, robots, and demons. However, one of their stand-out moments was when the X-Men's mentor, Professor X, asked The Defenders to help him stop Magneto. (If you're wondering why the professor didn't call the X-Men for aid, it was because their comic was cancelled at the time.)
Despite the Defenders' best efforts against Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, the superheroes failed to stop Mags from awakening a constantly evolving mutant called Alpha.
Weirdly, this is the most famous Defenders story because it fixed a major plothole. If Magneto was born in the 1930s, how can he still be running around, fighting superheroes in the modern era as an old man? How does a 90-year-old man fight Wolverine and Cyclops without breaking his hip every five seconds?
To get around this plothole, Marvel decided to "reset" the Master of Magnetism's age. You see, this Defenders story concluded with Alpha realising Magneto was manipulating him and so, turned him into a baby. The X-Men's nemesis became an adult in a later issue but his body was of a man in his 30s.
