10 Times The Joker Actually SAVED Batman

2. Stopping Red Skull

Joker Batman
DC Comics

As anyone who has ever seen or read The Joker will testify, the Clown Prince of Crime is far more than just a petty criminal or some maniac with his own agenda. An agent of chaos in the absolute purest sense, he rarely ever segregates or marginalises those he targets with his antics.

And it is exactly for these reasons that The Joker finds himself coming into conflict with Red Skull, Captain America's greatest foe. During the Batman & Captain America crossover, The Joker and Red Skull actually begin as allies against the superheroes, however things begin to go south when DC's finest villain first discovers Red Skull is working for the Third Reich.

It's admittedly a funny scene and somewhat comforting seeing this criminally insane and utterly sadistic killer becoming outraged at this discovery and drawing the line at being a Nazi, and it's a development that actually sees The Joker helping out his oldest foe.

The Joker and Red Skull face off in a fierce showdown, saving Batman and Captain America the hassle of doing it themselves, and also revealing the Clown Prince's more patriotic side.
