10 Times The Joker Was Genuinely Hilarious
1. The Boner - Batman #66
After the Joker botches a crime, newspapers ridicule him with headlines like "Joker Pulls Boner of the Year". This inspires the architect of anarchy to organise a crime spree revolving around mankind's biggest blunders.
Okay, you don't have to be an epistemologist to know the definition of words can change over time. Although the word "boner" meant "blunder" at the time this story was printed, the definition has taken on a more... phallic meaning in recent years.
Now, if the word "boner" was used in this story once or twice, it wouldn't be a big deal. However, it's impossible to take this story seriously as the word "boner" is used 33 times!! The comic is filled with dialogue like "How can he force you into a boner?", "How do you like a boner?", and the classic, "Stung by his own boner." It doesn't help that the front cover has a phallic-shaped Joker-styled totem pole looming over Batman (which is weird, since there are no totem poles in this story).
It seems juvenile to laugh at the plot since the writers couldn't have anticipated the word's meaning having sexual connotations but you can't help but crack up while reading it.
