10 Times The Joker Was Genuinely Hilarious

8. The Laughing Fish - Detective Comics #475-476

The Joker
DC Comics

Because the Joker is as crazy as crazy gets, most of his evil schemes don't make a lick of sense. He can't just kill someone like a normal murderer. Over the years, the creepy clown has covered Gotham in red paint, sliced his tongue in two, and cut off his own face.

The Joker's most famous non-sensical scheme was when he attempted to poison the water in Gotham's harbour. The toxin infects the fish, causing them to develop the same sneering smile as the Joker. Because the fish themselves aren't poisonous, Batman's nemesis has the genius idea to copyright the fish so he can turn it into a lucrative business. Only the Joker could see his own mug on a fish and think, "Yeah, I can make money out of this."

But that's only the tip of the crazy iceberg. Over time, the Joker thinks - Why stop there? Why not corner every market? If he douses cows with the same poison, he can make billions from Joker-burgers. He even considers licensing his face to rock bands!

This story was a big hit with readers and was adapted into an episode for Batman: The Animated Series.
