Well, she killed his son; why not keep it in the family? Since taking over writing duties for Wonder Woman, Brian Azzarello has made some bold changes to Diana's history, for starters revealing that she's a daughter of Zeus. Now she's the God Of War. While battling First Born (the first godchild of Zeus and Hera, prophesied to sit on the throne of Olympus surrounded by the corpses of gods) and his villainous hyena army, Wonder Woman teams up with War and his ghost army of every soldier that ever died. It's quite a big concept. Whoever kills War must take his place, so goes the way of the Greek gods, and as the battle rages around them, First Born snatches War by the throat. It looks like he's about to crush him when suddenly Wonder Woman runs both gods through with a spear. War dies and Wonder Woman becomes the God of War in his stead.
