10 Most Tragic Deaths In The History Of Batman

6. Harvey Dent (Christopher Nolan Films)

Christopher Nolan's Batman films took a more realistic tone compared to the previous Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher movies of the 90s. Because of this, the characters were reinterpreted to fit their environment, Harvey Dent being a great example. Rather than just have him be the duality loving villain, Nolan decided to focus on Harvey's crusade against crime as a district attorney, leading him to join forces with Batman and James Gordon. Things seem to be going great until that pesky Joker starts screwing things up. After pretending he was Batman and almost being killed by the Joker, Harvey is kidnapped by the Joker's men and trapped in a warehouse filled with gasoline barrels. His girlfriend Rachel Dawes is put in the same situation at a different location (we'll get to her later in the list). Batman, getting the locations of both of them, goes to save who he thinks is Rachel, but discovers is Harvey. The two of them escape, but the warehouse blows up and sets half of Harvey's face on fire. Distraught from losing Rachel and fresh from hearing a existential speech from the Joker, Harvey goes on a revenge crusade against the people responsible for Rachel's death, but only kills them if his newly scarred coin lands burnt-side up. After killing Maroni, Gotham cop Wertz and several others, Dent goes after Gordon's family. Wanting Gordon to feel the same pain he did, he attempts to kill Gordon's son, but is stopped by Batman. Falling off the building, Dent dies a tragic figure who was corrupted by the city he tried to protect.
