10 Types Of Kryptonite (Other Than Green) That You Need To Know About

5. Silver Kryptonite

Silver Kryptonite was first introduced in 'Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #70' - a comic that we still can't believe even exists.

Anyway, the silver rock was not actually a Kryptonian substance and but merely a prop for a prank Olsen was playing on Superman to celebrate their Silver Anniversary. However, later in different Superman comics and series’ the silver ore made appearances and was a real material from the Kryptonian meteors, only this time, its effects were far more serious.

In the Smallville series, the mineral was created by Brainiac using earth rock and liquid metal from his own body. It took effect when it cut Clark’s skin, inducing paranoia and hallucinations. Clark began to become severely ill and started to become convinced that his loved ones were plotting against him.

In the comics, Silver Kryptonite has somewhat different repercussions. Like Smallville, the ore causes hallucinations but in the Post-Crisis continuity, it essentially acts like a weird Kryptonian drug. Giving off similar side effects as cannabis, the silver mineral causes a loss of inhibitions, altered perceptions and extreme hunger cravings, which for Superman means an awful lot of munchies for when he’s sat laughing uncontrollably at Kevin Smith's classics.
