10 Uncomfortable “Adult” Comic Book Moments
6. Spidey-Sperm
Spider-Man: Reign is up there with Spidey's most controversial storylines. Set in the future, Old Man Parker dons the spider-suit once more after J. Jonah Jameson begs for help with a private military guard who is attacking him.
Reign have taken over New York, policing the city with extreme force. However, that was only the beginning of Peter's problems as the leader of Reign unleashes the Sinister Six once again to take out Spider-Man.
Throughout the book, Old Man Parker is plagued by hallucinations of Mary Jane in his apartment. The figure stands deadly still and refuses to acknowledge Peter, driving him to insanity. As Doc Ock digs Peter's grave next to his family, we find out just why his deceased wife haunts him so much. For all the years since her death, Peter has blamed himself.
In a shocking move, Doc Ock rips Mary Jane's corpse out of the ground and drops her beside Peter. As he holds her body, he breaks down and tells her the apology he never could give her before her passing.
It's a deeply emotional scene, which is sadly undercut by the notion that it was long term exposure to Peter's radioactive "fluid" that killed her.
