10 Uncomfortable “Adult” Comic Book Moments

There's a lot wrong with Marvel's Ultimatum. From the poor story to all the loose ends it left behind, critics and fans alike panned the arc as it tried to wrap up the Ultimate series. Yet, despite the poor reception, the book still sold well. Many critics put the high numbers down to one thing, shock value.

Out of all the things the story lacked, shock value was definitely not one of them. Readers were bombarded with crude jokes and over the top violence as heroes were unceremoniously killed off.

The worst moment by far came when Hawkeye spots something out of the corner of his eye. As he investigates the scene, Barton turns a corner where his fears are confirmed.

The next page features The Blob, feasting on the innards of Janet Van Dyne. Everything about the scene is disgusting, from his infected skin, to his face dripping with Wasp's blood and guts. When Hank discovers the scene, he picks up The Blob and bites the mutant's head clean off, before spiting it on the ground.

As if the gory panels weren't enough, writer Jeph Loeb decided to add in a "tastes like chicken" joke for good measure.
