5. Scott Pilgrim In Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
Oni Press/Bryan Lee O'MalleyLiving in a version of Toronto, Canada running on video game rules is a pretty good reason as to why our number five entry is described by his friends as 'the best fight in the province.' Anywhere else, it would be ludicrous but that's why Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim was such an indie hit. Scott is a regular dude at heart, the everyman struggling to find a good job and falling madly in love with the newest cool girl in town, Ramona Flowers. She should be way out of his league but through perseverance and a smidgen of naive charm, he wins her affections. Of course, that's only the beginning of the story because Ramona has a pretty impressive list of evil exes and they're all waiting in line to kick Scott's head in. At its core then, the Scott Pilgrim series is a love story about a couple of twenty somethings trying to deal with their baggage to be together. It's just that the dealing with your baggage part in this particular universe means kung fu fights to the death. When was the last time you read a comic and saw a hipster kid in his mid twenties dragon punch an evil robot to pieces eh? Edgar Wright rather successfully managed to adapt the series into a great film in 2010, but we still recommend seeking out the entire series for the full experience.
