6. Tony Chu In Chew
Image Comics/John LaymanAn FDA agent operating in Philadelphia, Chu has an extraordinary power - he is cibopathic. This gives him the ability to establish a psychic link with anything he chews on, be it vegetable, mineral or indeed, animal. He's not above nibbling on the odd dead body to get his man either. This odd power is only half the reason Tony is such a compelling and extraordinary lead: for once in comic books, here is an Asian-American who isn't a ninja or some type of computer hacker. Score one for social progress. Personality wise, he's everything you want in a protagonist: witty, irreverent and pretty damn good at what he does. Of course to be a fully rounded out character, you need your flaws and Tony's ineptitude with women as well as being a complete stickler for rules and regulations only tend to make him more endearing as you read on. Overall, Chew is a series of a kind that doesn't come along very often and that is in large part due to its awesome lead character.
