Without the advantages of superpowers, Peter Parker’s life would be an unmitigated tragedy. As a child, Peter was orphaned when his CIA agent parents, Richard and Mary Parker, were killed by Red Skull and falsely accused of treason. He was raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May.

Soon after gaining powers he experienced great tragedy. Wrapped up in his new-found fame as Spider-Man, Peter refused to get involved in an incident outside a TV studio, however, the criminal who escaped murdered Ben during a home invasion.

Peter’s life would continue to become complicated when his arch-nemesis the Green Goblin turned out to be Norman Osborn, his best friend Harry’s father. It was Osborn who killed Peter’s first love Gwen Stacy. It was later revealed that Gwen cheated on Peter with Osborn and had given birth to his twin children.

Peter’s enduring romantic relationship was with Mary Jane Watson. Though the geek got the girl, Peter and Mary Jane’s relationship was also laced with misfortune. The two married and tried for a child. Mary Jane became pregnant, but the couple’s child was stillborn. Peter later sacrificed his marriage, when in a bargain with Mephisto, he wiped the marriage from history to save Aunt May’s life.
