Slapstick doesn’t break the fourth wall. He knocks the whole house down with a comedy-sided mallet. Created for his own book, The Awesome Slapstick #1 in 1992 by Len Kaminski and James Fry, Steven Harmon is essentially a cartoon superhero that lives and interacts with the “real” people in the Marvel Universe.

Middle school practical joker Steven Harmon dressed as a clown to blend in at a strange new carnival when his rival and his date are kidnapped by clowns. Grabbing a mallet, he follows them into a fun house and through a portal. Just as he is stepping through, he is hit with an energy blast and his molecules are stretched across 3741 dimensions. His body becomes composed of living unstable molecules called Electroplasm that give him a variety of powers including indestructibility.

Slapstick was a member of the New Warriors and ended up being sent to Camp Hammond along with most surviving Warriors after the Stamford Incident to become part of the Initiative. Slapstick was once described as “the hero that doesn’t fight crime but rather plays cruel tricks on it.” But since the device to turn him human again no longer works, it seems that the cruelest trick has been played on poor Steve.
