2. Too Many Spider-Men

Marvel has inexplicably maneuvered itself into the exact same problem DC has with Superman: too many virtually identical characters. For many years, Spider-Man was unique in the Marvel universe. In recent years, we have seen Ultimate Spider-Man/Peter Parker, Miles Morales (successor to the recently deceased Ultimate Spider-Man/Peter Parker), the new Scarlet Spider (Kaine), Spider-Man 2099, the deceased Ezekial, and Ben Reilly (Spidey's deceased clone/friend/ally). In last year's "Spider-Island" event, half of the island of Manhattan's residents were granted spider-powers via the spread of a tailored virus. Even Mary Jane had superpowers similar to Spider-Man's. It's next to impossible to stand out when you're just one of many.
