10 Ways To Beat Superman
3. Red Sun Radiation
It's not just the yellow sun that can be dangerous to Superman.
Genetically, Kal-El is no different to any other Krytonian. The reason that you never see any of his ancestors flying around their home planet or lifting space elephants bare handed though is that Krypton orbited a red giant. The much weaker radiation never allowed Kryptonians to access their natural superpowers.
That means that whenever Superman is exposed to the light of a red sun, it has the same effect as blocking our Sun. While it doesn't hurt the Man of Steel, it does rob him of his powers and leave him vulnerable to attack.
It's a strategy that has been used by a lot of Superman's enemies and even some of his allies. Batman has used red solar lights to even the playing field on more than one occasion. In the alternate universe story Red Son, a crazed communist version of the Dark Knight kidnapped Wonder Woman and used her to bait the Man of Soviet Steel into a red sun illuminated arena so that they could fight.
It was also used by Batman in the Injustice Universe to create a prison capable of containing Superman when he turned to the dark side.
