10 Weird And Wonderful Alternate Versions Of Spider-Man
2. Prince Of Arachne
Back into what passes as the realm of sanity, we find ourselves digging through archives of Marvel’s old comics once again with the Prince of Arachne, a version of Peter Parker who sounds suspiciously like Cinderella, of all things.
The story centres on an orphaned Peter Parker being taken in by an evil guardian, Norman Osborne, and forced to clean the Osborne house all the live long day. We soon learn that a ball is being held so that Princess Gwendolyn can find a husband. Park is strictly forbidden from going out, much like every good Disney princess is, but this doesn't quell his desires. He decides to attend in a suit of armour, made with the inspiration of a spider on his family’s tomb.
As you do.
He attends the ball and dances with the Princess, who immediately wants to marry him after a dance, but when the clock strikes midnight Parker bails, leaving one of his webbed brassards. It’s Cinderella, but with Spider-Man, and it’s so bizarre, and it ends up with Princess Gwendolyn dying (because of course Gwen dies) and her people accepting Parker as a Prince and oh god it’s just too weird.
