6. Cosmo The Spacedog
Another one of Marvel's animal heroes, Cosmo is a dog... in space.
The character was created as a reference to Laika, the first dog in space. Like his animal counterpart, Cosmo was a test animal for the Soviet space program. He was sent up into Earth's orbit as part of an experiment, but something went wrong and he ended up drifting off into space.
While floating through the galaxy, Cosmo was mutated somehow (the good money is on those pesky cosmic rays) and he gained superpowers. His lifespan was greatly increased and he also developed telepathy.
Eventually, Cosmo's spaceship ended up at Knowhere, the giant city made out of a celestial's head. Cosmo made Knowhere his home and was later appointed as its head of security.
After the robotic alien race known as the Phalanx invaded the Kree homeworld, Star-Lord decided to assemble a team of Guardians of the Galaxy to take a more proactive approach in stopping invasions. While this team contained the five members from the film, Quasar, Adam Warlock, Mantis and Cosmo were also all members. The team even used Knowhere as their base of operations.
Unlike the rest of this list, Cosmo actually has appeared in a movie. He had a brief cameo as part of the Collector's collection in Guardians of the Galaxy.
