10 Weird Marvel Villains You Won't Believe Exist

7. Gypsy Moth/Sybarite/Skein

Master Pandemonium Baby Arms
Marvel Comics

Skein is a mutant with telekinesis. This would put her in the same category as powerhouses like Jean Grey and Psylocke if it wasn't for a pretty specific weakness.

Skein also has a pathological aversion to inorganic materials, preferring to instead manipulate organic fibres. What that translates to is that her powers mostly involve wrapping people up in fabric or making their clothes fall off.

Surprisingly, her supervillain career is even weirder than her powers. Sybil Dvorak was born in Romania. One day she fell in love with the star of a Dracula remake and they both moved to America. However, Sybil was an illegal immigrant and so had to stay hidden in the house all day long. Eventually, the isolation drove her insane and she became the supervillain Gypsy Moth.

After her husband died, she changed her name to Sybarite and started a cult where she traded members drugs in return for soft clothes. As far as addictions go, it was a pretty novel one.

She later took the name Skein when she reformed and joined the Thunderbolts. Turned out though that she had joined for the less than noble purpose of seducing her teammate Songbird. When she realised it was never going to happen, she quit and went back to villainy.
