10 Weirdest Powers Superman Once Had But Lost

4. Shield Toss

Richard Donner's Superman stands as one of the greatest superhero movies ever made, and that was as true in the seventies as it is today. The sequel is also an excellent movie, but it introduced some superpowers that Superman never had in the comics and never had after the movie either.

One such power was the Shield Toss, which happened when the Man of Steel was facing off against General Zod and his minions in the Fortress of Solitude. All of the Kryptonians had the same set of superpowers, but nobody could have guessed there was one involving the "S" symbol.

The power itself was never explained, and the way it was presented at the end of the movie, it seemed like the viewer shouldn't have been surprised. Superman peeled off a cellophane version of his shield and threw it at his enemy. As it soared through the air, it increased in size.

It then wrapped itself around Non, throwing him to the ground. As he rolled around for a few seconds, the shield disappeared. The reason for its being there wasn't clear, nor was the reason it vanished. It's a weird power, so it's not a bad thing that it's gone.
