10 Weirdest Powers Superman Once Had But Lost

3. Force Beams

Superman II wasn't responsible for revealing only one new superpower; the movie dropped a few strange ones in the film. While the cellophane shield toss was certainly the strangest, another one that didn't make any sense was the use of Force Beams fired from the palms of the Kryptonian's hands.

Now, in the movie, Superman doesn't actually use the power himself, but all three of his opponents do. They hold up their hands and fire off a beam of white energy at Superman. He holds up his hand, holding off the destructive power, which causes him to literally become red-hot.

The attack is clearly powerful, but it's not something Superman has used, which is odd. It's apparently as powerful (or more so) than his heat vision, but for whatever reason, he didn't even bother to use it in the movie against his foes.

Technically, firing off a beam of light from the hand wasn't entirely new to Superman's mythos. In Superman #125, he gained the ability to fire off rainbows of light from his fingers. The beam of light forced crooks to instantly surrender, but it was just the precursor to another weird power found later on this list.
