10 Worst Ever Avengers

Earth's not so mightiest heroes.

Red Hulk
Marvel Comics

When the Avengers first formed it was under a pretty simple premise: they were a group of the world's strongest heroes, uniting to take down threats none of them could manage alone. It was a team chock full of legends like Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor.

Over the years, they've become a lot less strict about who they'll let in, and we've seen a whole host of faces come and go through the doors of whatever The Avenger's currently least blown up headquarters is. Everyone from brooding antiheroes like Wolverine to teenagers like Ms. Marvel have accepted spots on one of several Avengers teams and proved themselves as one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

There are some members though, that the Avengers would rather forget. These are the characters who won't be assembling again anytime soon. These are the incompetents, the forgotten and the downright jerks who somehow wheedled their way into a spot on the team. Here are the ten worst offenders.

And no, Stingray isn't on the list. Stingray is cool. These guys definitely aren't though...

10. Captain Universe

Red Hulk
Marvel Comics

Captain Universe is a prime example of why too much power can be a bad thing.

When Jonathan Hickman took over writing The Avengers in 2013, he transformed the team into a global, and even intergalactic, team of some of the most powerful beings in the universe. Fighting alongside a roster packed full of classic members were several new characters, including a brand-new Captain Universe.

Captain Universe is the persona of the Uni-Power, an all-powerful force that grants its hosts incredible powers in times of great crisis. This Captain Universe was Tamara Devoux, a woman who had spent ten years in a coma after a car crash.

The problem with Captain Universe is that she existed pretty much purely to give ominous warnings about the upcoming Infinity and Secret Wars events. The times she actually bothered to help out with missions she would either get immediately taken out somehow, or she would show up at the last second and conveniently have the exact power needed to save the day.

After Infinity and the war against the alien Builders (which she spent most of unconscious), she left the Avengers and disappeared. No-one seemed particularly fussed.
