10 Worst Ever Members Of The Justice League

9. Brown Bomber

Justice League Of Antarctica
DC Comics

Now admittedly this one is cheating a bit, but the appalling idea that inspired this character deserves mentioning.

Brown Bomber is an alternate version of Black Lightning who appeared in Justice League of America Vol. 2 #26 after the evil god Anasi re-wrote the history of all the members of the team. He was an obese white guy who could transform into a hulking Afro-clad black man when he yelled his catchphrase which, I kid you not, was "Black Power!".

Now obviously the character was intended as a joke, but you still might be wondering where the hell such a ridiculous idea came from. Well, he was based on the Black Bomber, the actual original concept for Black Lightning.

And it gets worse. Not only was DC's first leading black superhero almost secretly white, that white guy was also a gigantic racist. Thankfully the editor who allowed this mess left before it was printed and writer Tony Isabella was able to use his much better character.

Fun extra fact: Brown Bomber's entire existence was to set up a joke with Vixen (another black superhero) where he asks if he can use the n-word. However, the joke was cut from the final copy and so we're left with one of the most nonsensical panels in comics in which Vixen says "no, you absolutely can't" to nothing at all.
