10 Worst Fakeout Endings In Comics

3. The Joker's Face-Slicing Spree

Spider-Man Miles Morales Captain America
DC Comics

Death of the Family was a joyous, unhinged return to form for the Clown Prince of Crime.

Here, the Joker tormented Batman and the greater Bat-family in a way that had not been seen from the Harlequin of Hate for a good few years. Methodically targeting our heroes individually, the Jester of Genocide was able to get the best of Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Batgirl, Red Hood, Red Robin, Nightwing, Robin, Alfred Pennyworth and eventually Batman.

This was the Joker at his finest, with him tormenting and torturing a slew of familiar faces all just simply to f**k with the Dark Knight.

As Death of the Family raced to a close, Batman was confronted with the trapped, subdued forms of his nearest and dearest. Not just that, but said nearest and dearest's heads were bandaged, as Mr. J had sliced off their faces in gruesome fashion.

This would all end up being a ruse, as Joker had tricked everyone involved into thinking their faces had been cut off. Instead, they'd just been corrupted by your usual Joker concoction of chemicals in the hopes of driving the Bat-family to insanity.
