10 Worst Fakeout Endings In Comics

2. Miles Morales Kills Captain America

Marvel Comics

The fifth issue of Marvel's Civil War II had the jarring image of Miles Morales standing over the dead body of Captain America.

For those not familiar with this particular Civil War, the general crux of the matter is that Tony Stark and Carol Danvers are on opposing sides of an argument based around whether or not they should utilise the premonition-based powers of Ulysses to prevent potential future misdemeanours. As with 2006's Civil War story, this tale splits the Marvel universe as heroes and villains choose to side with either Stark or Danvers.

One of the most startling moments of Civil War II is the premonition that the Morales iteration of Spider-Man will slaughter Steve Rogers. With a battle raging, all involved are brought to a crashing halt at this vision of Miles holding the impaled corpse of the Sentinel of Liberty, with this seemingly a nailed-on future reality.

Despite Ulysses' power of premonition, this entire situation was all merely a fakeout future seemingly designed to get readers talking ahead of the inevitable death of Captain America at the hands of Spider-Man. Instead, this future never came to pass, and we were all just tricked into thinking that Morales would somehow go to such an extreme measure.

Of course, one could also include the fake 'death' of Steve Rogers in the fallout of the first Civil War in a list such as this.
