10 Worst Injuries Superheroes Have Survived
5. Aquaman Gets Eaten By Pirahnas
Arthur Curry's redesign in the nineties books was an impressive departure from the classic look readers were used to. The Protector of the Deep grew out his hair and beard, had his hand eaten by flesh-eating fish and got extremely beefed up.
Charybdis captures Aquaman and Dolphin in an attempt to absorb their powers. The plan fails when, as he goes to dunk Dolphin's face into a tank of piranhas, Curry breaks out of his restraints and attacks the villain. Charybdis manages to escape, but is quickly tracked down again and the second fight doesn't go well for either side. The crazed villain manages to get the upper hand and pins Aquaman to the ground while holding his arm underwater. The next two gruesome panels show scraps of fabric, flesh and blood flying everywhere as piranhas lay waste to the King's hand.
The fight is brought to an end when Dolphin emerges from the forest and shoots Charybdis in the chest. This seems to be no more than a minor annoyance for the lunatic and he charges towards Dolphin to take his revenge. But in a spectacular display of justice, he is tripped by Arthur and falls into the same infested waters he had just used as a weapon.
Arthur Curry survives, but Charybdis does not. It could have very easily been the opposite way round if Dolphin hadn't shown up in time.
