10 Worst Injuries Superheroes Have Survived

4. Doctor Strange's Car Crash

Doctor Strange
Marvel Comics

Doctor Strange's origin story is a lesson to everyone on the dangers of being horribly arrogant. Speeding down a treacherous road, Strange loses control of his car and veers off a steep cliff. He quickly goes from being completely in control to someone who needs as much assistance he could possibly get.

You would think that would humble the surgeon even just a little bit, but that just isn't the Doctor's style. One of the first things he actually does once regaining consciousness is insult the doctor that has worked so hard to save him. The rest of the story is well known, but it could have easily been the end. If Stephen hadn't thrown himself out of the car as it fell, it's likely he would have died in the wreckage.

This wouldn't be the only time the Master of the Mystic Arts would loses his hands. Skip forward around 40 years to Doctor Strange #19 and the titular character is faced with a terrible proposition from Channok.

In order to save a young boy who is dying from his injuries, Strange discovers the demon lord has a tome that can bring back the full use of his hands. To allow him to perform the vital surgery, the Doctor takes the deal. At first, the spell appears to completely destroy his hands before they very painfully regrew before his eyes. The darker side of this deal doesn't reveal itself at first, but while Strange is full of excitement at the prospect of being a medical professional again, Channok reminds him that the spell doesn't come without a price.
