10 Worst Marvel Superhero Costumes Of All Time

1. Captain Ultra

Emma Frost
Marvel Comics

It’s impossible to discuss horrible costumes in Marvel Comics history without pointing the first finger at Captain Ultra. Ultra’s co-creator said that he and George Perez deliberately gave the character a “church window” costume - “One with a zillion design pieces, and nearly as many colors, with nothing to really focus the eye.”

Plumber Griffin Gogol gained his powers when the elderly psychiatrist who he had just done work for couldn’t pay him. The doctor offered to use hypnosis to help the man overcome his smoking habit. He unlocked an incredible array of powers that would have made Gogol one of the most powerful heroes in Marvel history, if not for his new crippling fear of even the smallest fire.

Captain Ultra chose a shockingly gaudy costume that looked like a color wheel exploded on him. A green and yellow mask with a large blue metallic neckpiece and blue cape went over a red, yellow, and orange tunic with high green shoulder fins. Red and green metallic gloves cover each hand. At the waist is a gigantic golden-yellow belt above a pair of metallic blue trunks and orange leggings. The garish ensemble is completed with green and black boots with yellow cuffs. It’s no surprise that there are no cosplayers trying to dress up as this guy at conventions.
