10 Worst Things Captain America Has Done

8. Allows Bucky To Be Killed – Thunderbolts #12

Captain America Mystique
Marvel Comics

Mark this one down as another one for Hydra Cap.

With Helmut Zemo starting to question whether or not he can really trust Steve Rogers and his loyalty to Hydra, the rogue serves up a litmus test in the form of Bucky Barnes.

Remembering that Bucky killed Helmet’s father Heinrich – the original Baron Zemo – by strapping him to a rocket, the younger Zemo returns the favour and ties Barnes to a rocket designed to send him to his explosive death. Will Rogers save his BFF and show that he’s not really as dedicated to Hydra as he claims, or will he let Zemo’s plan play out and send Bucky to the afterlife?

Bucky chooses to die rather than say "Hail Hydra!", leading to an annoyed Kobik pulling him out of that time-frame and returning him to the present day with his knowledge of Cap's duplicity. But even then, Bucky again finds himself to strapped to a rocket in the current day as Steve bids farewell to his former "friend to the end".
