10 Worst Things The Green Goblin Has Done To Spider-Man

2. The Death Of Gwen Stacy

Top10goblin 02 "The Night Gwen Stacy Died" is one of the most famous storylines in the history of comic books. In it, Peter€™s long-time girlfriend, the sweet and innocent Gwen Stacy, is killed by the Green Goblin when he kidnaps her as a way to get Peter€™s attention and throws her off a bridge. When Spider-Man attempts to save her, her accidentally snaps her neck with his webbing. The story is considered by many comic book historians as the €œend€ of the Silver Age of comics, ushering in a darker era of grittier characters and more mature themes. Once comic book creators were willing to kill off an innocent like Gwen, anything was on the table, and for many writers and artists, everything did end up on the table. For Peter, Gwen€™s death tortured him for years to come, and the situation is only further complicated when, during the ensuing battle with the Goblin, Norman impales himself with his glider and is assumed dead. Despite being his sworn enemy, Norman is his best friend€™s father, making the situation even harder for Peter to cope with, since he naturally blames himself. Peter is never the same again after this storyline.
