6. He Flip-flopped During Civil War
The comic event Civil War was pretty much defined by Peter Parker making increasingly poor life choices.
Depending on your opinion, the fact that Spider-Man sided with Iron Man's pro-superhero registration forces at all was a mistake to begin with, but what followed was definitely worse.
In order to help prove Tony Stark's point that superheroes shouldn't have secret identities, Peter Parker revealed his to the world. This of course almost immediately placed Peter's friends and family in the crosshairs of every single one of his enemies and his wife and aunt soon found themselves under attack from the likes of the Chameleon.
Now all this was bad enough when Mary Jane and Aunt May were safely tucked up in Stark Tower, but then Peter went and had a change of conscience and swapped sides to join Captain America's forces.
Cap ended up being the wrong horse to back and once he lost the war Spider-Man wound up as a fugitive with not even his secret identity to rely on. To make matters worse, without Iron Man's protection, Aunt May was hit by an assassin's bullet meant for Peter. This event eventually led to Spider-Man making an even more infamous decision...
