10 Worst Things That Have Happened To The Joker

Though the Joker often appears to actively crave death in the comics, this is only under a specific set of circumstances. If he's dying to the Bat, or otherwise dying in a way that will hinder Batman, he's entirely game to pass away. When it's not part of a cosmic joke, however, he's solidly against kicking the bucket, which is shown best in The Joker: Endgame.

After foiling the Joker's evil schemes, Batman and the jester find themselves fighting in the cavernous bowels of Gotham, in a fight that leads to them both sustaining life-threatening injuries. Moments before their deaths, the clown breaks down, realising that the pair will ultimately pass away together peacefully underground, which is very much the opposite to the fire-and-brimstone ending he wanted.

Both Batman and the Joker do actually die here, only to be brought back by the dionesium contained within the city's underbelly - but briefly, it's pretty much the clown's worst nightmare.
