10 Worst Things The Green Lanterns Have Ever Done
6. Killing Sorik Nantu's Son (And Then Not Telling Her Who He Was) - Hal Jordan Green Lantern Corps #21
Fans knew something strange was afoot when, during a fight with a villain from the future named Sarko, Kyle Rayner appeared to have a full-scale breakdown about the identity of the enigmatic villain. The mystery would be answered at the end of the issue, when it was revealed that this was because Sarko was the child of Sorik Nantu - the leader of the Sinestro Corps - and Rayner himself, meaning the Lanterns just killed their son.
But this isn't even the part that's genuinely messed up. No, the bad part is that Kyle and the Lanterns don't tell Nantu that the villain they just absolutely decimated is her offspring, meaning that when she finds out they've kept this from her, she's understandably absolutely beside herself with rage. Although not all of her actions are justifiable - for example, branding Kyle with the Sinestro logo is a little bit much - her argument for doing so is surprisingly valid.
Because at this point in time the Sinestro Corps and Green Lanterns are supposed to have a truce, wherein both sides agree to treat the other with the respect and reverence they would their own teammates. As such, keeping this secret from the other faction - especially right after a rogue Green Lantern killed a Sinestro Corps member - is a huge breach of the pact they made, meaning it's actually their fault that the whole truce breaks down in the first place.
