10 Worst Things The Spectre Has Ever Done

1. He Took Part In The Rebellion Against Heaven With Lucifer

Spectre Jim Corrigan
DC Comics

Seconds after creation, there was a rebellion against Heaven, led by Lucifer Morningstar. It was over quickly and the angels on the losing side were cast down to Hell and became demons. Over time, a Prince in Hell named Aztar repented his part in the rebellion and prostrated himself in front of the Archangel Michael in front of the Gates of Heaven. He acknowledged his wrongdoing, accepted his responsibility for his actions and offered himself up to whatever punishment that the Presence saw fit to impose.

The Presence judgement was that Aztar would become an aspect of the Divine…its Wrath. His memory and conscience would be wiped from existence and replaced with the Wrath of the Presence. Aztar accepted with regret, hoping that some aspect of him would be left, but it wasn’t meant to be. When the Spectre Force entered him, all parts that had been Aztar were obliterated and only the Spectre remained.

For centuries, the Vengeance of God ran rampant in the world, punishing mankind in increasingly horrific ways. Then, came the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. And the former angel was cast into Limbo because God’s wrath and forgiveness could not exist at the same time. When Jesus was crucified, the Spectre was free again, but it was decreed that he would now be bound to a human host for the rest of his existence.
