10 Worst Things The Spectre Has Ever Done

4. The Spectre Destroyed The Ninth Age Of Magic

Spectre Jim Corrigan
DC Comics

Once again without a host, the Spectre was easily seduced by Eclipso, this time in possession of Jean Loring, the ex-wife of Ray Palmer, the Atom, and the murderer of Sue Dibny. She convinced him that magic was the source of all evil and, that by destroying it, he could fulfil his mission. Knowing that he didn’t have the power to destroy him, Corrigan transformed the enigmatic Phantom Stranger into a small black mouse.

The Spectre went on a rampage in the magical realms, slaughtering thousands of magicians, sorcerers, and magic users. In the Earth realm, the wizard Shazam sent his champion Captain Marvel to battle the rampaging wraith while the Wizard himself prepared. The Stranger Mouse found its way to Detective Chimp in the Oblivion Bar, who organized several magical heroes to form the team Shadowpact. They failed to defeat the Wrathful One, but banished Eclipso to orbit around the sun, where her powers were nullified.

The Spectre and Captain Marvel fought for many days, but he finally broke through and confronted the Wizard on the Rock of Eternity. After a vicious battle, the Wraith killed Shazam and shattered the Rock, allowing its magical pieces to rain down on the world. The Vengeance Entity next killed all the Lords of Chaos and Order, leaving only Nabu, who resided in Dr. Fate’s helmet. With the death of Nabu, the ninth Age of Magic ended and allowed the Tenth to rise.
