10 Worst Things To Ever Happen To Green Lantern

2. Doctor Manhattan Causes Alan's Scott Death

During DC's recent Doomsday Clock storyline - the sequel to 1986/7's Watchmen series - Doctor Manhattan messed with time in order to change the DC Universe. One of his actions was to kill the original Green Lantern.

Curious about what would happen if he changed time, Manhattan observed Alan Scott's origin story and changed it so he died instead of becoming Green Lantern.

Tumbling from a collapsing bridge, Scott grabbed onto a falling lantern in the free-fall and became imbued with its magical power. However, Manhattan meddled with this event and pushed the lantern six inches out of Scott's reach, causing him to instead fall to his death.

History was reset and unravelled, and this death caused major ripples across the DC Universe. Due to Scott's untimely demise, the Justice Society of America was never formed, WWII wasn't won by the allies, and Superman never came into being.

Becoming inspired by Superman in the future, Doctor Manhattan later changed history again and moved the lantern back into Alan Scott's hands. This fixed the timeline, restored Green Lantern, and cemented his place in history.
