10 Worst Things To Ever Happen To Green Lantern

3. Hal Sacrifices Himself To Reignite The Sun

Even with his newfound power, Hal found himself unable to resurrect Coast City and instead focused his energy on seeking vengeance against Cyborg Superman.

Becoming more of an antihero, Parallax was an all-powerful and fear-inducing player in the DC Universe. However, when the Earth was threatened by an extraterrestrial body known as the Sun-Eater, Jordan redeemed himself.

When the Sun-Eater extinguished the Sun and caused the Earth to begin to freeze over, the combined efforts of DC's best superheroes couldn't defeat the villain and save the planet. Lex Luthor had a plan to reignite the Sun which would cause mass flooding across Earth, but Parallax saw the damage this would cause.

Recognising that similar catastrophes to Coast City's destruction would occur if he didn't help, Jordan sacrificed himself. Using all of his power, he disintegrated the Sun-Eater and reignited the Sun.

To atone for his actions as Parallax, Hal Jordan would later become the host for the supernatural entity known as the Spectre. First appearing as the Spectre in 1999's Day of Judgement storyline, Hal was now an omnipotent, Godlike being. However, now he used his Spectre powers to seek redemption and help others.
